Arbolino and Salac look to master Misano
The Elf Marc VDS Racing Team has journeyed from Spain to San Marino, with Tony Arbolino and Filip Salac ready for action in round 13 at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
- The second of four races in an action-packed September includes two trips to Misano, with confidence and expectations high after Arbolino claimed a season first podium last weekend at MotorLand Aragon.
- Action in the final European double header of 2024 starts at 950am local time on Friday ahead of Sunday’s 22-lap race at 1215pm.
/// TONY ARBOLINO
- Arbolino’s first rostrum of 2024 with a stunning ride to second in Aragon served as a perfect boost for the Italian coming into the second of his three home rounds in this year’s Moto2 World Championship.
- Arbolino produced one of his brilliant attacks in last year’s Misano clash to fight through from ninth on the grid to fourth and he was less than 1.5s away from the top three.
- The 24-year-old finished third in the 2019 Moto3 encounter and his fourth 12 months ago in Moto2 is his best showing in four outings in the intermediate category.
“I arrive in Misano in great shape”
“Aragon was a fantastic race for me and the perfect time to get back on the podium because it means I arrive in Misano in great shape with a lot of confidence. We have worked so hard to be back at the front and now we must make sure we remain constantly in the fight for the podium in the final part of the season. We have shown we are fast and strong again and the big step we made in Aragon was to be competitive in the second part of the race on worn tyres. Coming to Misano I have extra motivation to keep this momentum and put on a great show for my fans at home.”
/// FILIP SALAC
- Confidence is flooding back for Czech rider Salac after his recent top 10 in Austria was followed by a strong fightback from 20th on the grid last time out in Aragon to 11th position.
- Salac had a combative ride at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli last year when he took the chequered flag ninth after a big battle with current Moto2 title contenders Sergio Garcia and Joe Roberts.
- Last year’s ninth is his equal best finish in San Marino and one of three top 10 results the 22-year-old has achieved at the 4.23km track.
“I’ve got confidence back with the bike”
“The last two races have been positive and good for me to get back some confidence and feeling with the bike. I’m really looking forward to racing at Misano because it is a track that I really like, and the fans create a good atmosphere. The important thing now is to keep making progress. Our level is improving and now I feel ready to be consistently finishing inside the top 10.”
