Scott Redding will start from tomorrow's 23-lap Moto2 race at the Circuit de Catalunya from the third row, after constantly running into traffic while trying to set a qualifying time this afternoon. Mika Kallio will start from 19th on the grid, after struggling with set-up issues throughout the 45-minute qualifying.

During the early stages of qualifying Redding struggled to match his pace from this morning's session, in which he set the fast time, due to a lack of confidence in the front on a used tyre. The 19-year-old Briton was quickly back up to speed after switching to fresh rubber, but was unable to find clear track on which to set a fast time and eventually finished the session seventh fastest.

Having set the seventh quickest time during this morning's free practice, Kallio made minor changes to the set-up of his Kalex Moto2 machine ahead of qualifying, as he looked to reduce the gap to the top of the timesheet. Unfortunately for the 29-year-old Finn, the changes had a negative rather than positive effect on the bike and he was unable to match his free practice times in qualifying. Kallio finished the session 19th fastest, putting him on the seventh row of the grid for tomorrow's race.

Scott Redding #45: 7th – 1'46.816
“I went out on a well used front tyre at the start of the session and it was difficult to find a good rhythm as I just didn't have the same confidence in the front as I'd had this morning. Once we switched to new tyres I kept running into people cruising on track waiting for a tow. They were off the racing line but in the fast corners, like the final two turns, you automatically back off slightly because you don't want to close the front and take them down with you. It's a bit annoying. We have good pace in race trim, but it will be tough tomorrow. I need to get a good start and run with the leading group initially, but the real test will come when the tyres start to drop off later in the race. I'll be up there battling, but the main aim is to come away with as many points as possible.”

Mika Kallio #36: 19th – 1'47.654
“I'm far from happy with qualifying, as I was doing the same time as the first pit exit on Friday morning and I should have been much faster. The main issue was with the set-up. Ahead of qualifying I opted to change settings on the bike, looking for some improvements, but they simply didn't work. Starting from so far back on the grid is always difficult in a class as close as Moto2, but the aim for tomorrow is simple. I need to get a good start and then be very aggressive on the opening lap to make up as many places as possible. It will be hard, but after today's qualifying I have no other option.”

“We are obviously a little disappointed with today's qualifying performance, as we've come to expect to be on the front two rows at every race this season. Scott got caught out by the traffic today, but you could see he had the pace to qualify on the front row. Mika took a chance on changes to the bike ahead of the session but, unfortunately, went the wrong way. It will be a hard race for both riders tomorrow, but I am confident they will be able to fight their way through the field and expect to see Scott fighting for a top five finish and Mika inside the top ten.”
