Franco Morbidelli and Álex Márquez look set to enact their own battle of Britain this weekend, as the two Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders head to Silverstone and the British Grand Prix.

Morbidelli arrives in the United Kingdom with a 26-point lead over Tom Lüthi in the Moto2 championship standings and with his confidence sky high after bouncing back from a disappointing eighth place finish in Brno to secure his seventh win of the season last time out in Austria.

And while the fast and open Silverstone circuit is very different to the stop start Spielberg layout, it's a circuit at which Morbidelli secured one of his eight podium finishes with second place last season.

The Italian heads to Great Britain determined to go one better this weekend and increase his win tally to eight, which would put him just one away from matching Marc Márquez's intermediate class record of nine race wins in one season, set in 2012.

Having finished second to Morbidelli in Austria, giving the team their first one-two finish of the 2017 season, Márquez is keen to reverse the finishing order at Silverstone, a track he rates as one of his favourites.

The 21-year-old Spaniard currently lies third in the Moto2 championship standings, just 28 points behind Lüthi in second place and 54 points behind series leader Morbidelli.

“To come back and win in Austria after the bad luck in Brno was important, as it means I move on to Silverstone with some confidence. We need to see what the weather brings this weekend, as it's always unpredictable in Britain, but the track is something of a challenge too. It's long, it's wide and it has a lot of corners, which makes it tricky to master. Last year I finished second at Silverstone and it would be good to go one better this year. That's what we will be working towards and I have every confidence in my crew, who I know will give me the most competitive package whatever the conditions this weekend.”

Álex Márquez:
“We head to Great Britain with a lot of motivation after two really good races and two second places in a row in the Czech Republic and Austria. Now we need to carry this momentum into Silverstone while continuing to work to find the few tenths we need to challenge consistently for the top step of the podium. Silverstone is another of my favourite tracks and one at which I've enjoyed some success in the past and I'm confident we can come away with a good result this weekend too.”
