Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Alex Marquez and Joan Mir head to Germany hungry for podium success

Alex Marquez is highly motivated to deliver another strong top three challenge when the Spanish rider takes on the tight, twisty and undulating Sachsenring track this weekend.

A fifth podium in the opening eight races of the season last time out in Assen kept Marquez hot on the heels of Pecco Bagnaia and Miguel Oliveira in an intense battle to be crowned 2018 Moto2 World Champion.

Marquez is now fully concentrated on gaining a big pre-summer break boost by fighting for his first podium finish at the Sachsenring, which despite being one of the shortest and slowest tracks on the World Championship schedule, still produces a demanding test for rider and machine.

Joan Mir is hoping his proven winning pedigree at the Sachsenring will be the catalyst for him to mount another strong bid for his third podium of the campaign.

Mir won an epic Moto3 race in Germany 12 months ago and he’s eager to test his skills around the Sachsenring on a Moto2 machine for the first time this weekend.

The Moto2 action gets underway with FP1 on Friday morning at 1055am, with the 28-lap race around the 3.671km track scheduled to start at 1220pm on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Marquez:

“Last year was not a very good weekend for me at the Sachsenring because I injured my back. But at least I was fast and leading the race in the early stages. The main target again looking ahead to this weekend is to be fast and consistent. I want to be stronger on Friday to start my preparations in a more positive way but I am 100% determined to be battling for the podium because it will be important to take some confidence and momentum into the summer break.”

Joan Mir:

“Sachsenring is quite a challenging track for any rider. I really like its layout and I won the Moto3 race last year, so I’ll be looking to quickly adapt my riding style on the Moto2 bike to be close to the front again this weekend. I was fast in the last two races in Barcelona and Assen but I felt in both I was missing something to feel completely comfortable and being able to ride on the limit.”
