Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Alex Marquez and Joan Mir head to one of the most iconic names in global motorsport this weekend to tackle the long, fast and technically demanding Silverstone track.

A confident Alex Marquez is relishing the chance to convert recent potential into a podium performance when the Moto2 World Championship hits UK shores this weekend.

The Spanish rider has his sights set firmly on another strong challenge at the front of Sunday’s 18-lap race, having been in the heat of battle for the podium recently in Brno and Spielberg.

Marquez was unfortunate to tumble out of contention in the previous two rounds, but the spectacular 5.9km Silverstone track is an 18-corner feast of adrenaline that he adores because if features a series of fast corners, high-speed changes of direction and hard braking zones.

Marquez took just the second podium finish of his illustrious career at Silverstone in 2013 and he finished second in a thrilling encounter 12 months later.

Joan Mir is equally determined to rediscover his podium touch as he bids for a first rostrum at Silverstone in his career.

Mir has claimed top 10 finishes in his two Moto3 appearances in the British Grand Prix and last year he played a starring role in a classic battle to finish fifth in what is ranked as the sixth closest top 15 in the history of the lightweight World Championship.

Mir produced a stunning charge through the field last time out in Austria to come from 20th to eighth position. And he is now right in contention for a top three finish in the World Championship standings sitting just 10-points behind teammate Marquez with eight rounds remaining.

Both Marquez and Mir are eager to get the action underway in FP1 on Friday morning at 1055am to evaluate a new surface laid at Silverstone earlier this year.

And in a revision to the normal race timetable to accommodate European TV schedules, Marquez and Mir will do battle after the Moto3 and MotoGP races on Sunday at 1430pm local time.

“It is clear that at the last two races in Brno and Spielberg the final result didn’t meet our expectations, so we go to Silverstone still positive of achieving a strong result, but the first objective must be to finish the race. There are still a lot of races remaining but the World Championship is going to be very difficult to win now, but we must not give up and continue to believe and keep pushing at the maximum in every race. Silverstone is a track I like a lot and I’m still full of motivation going there with a lot of power to show our true potential again. The most important thing is to enjoy being on the bike again and I am sure that will happen this weekend on a beautiful track.”

Joan Mir: 6th in the overall standings on 103-points

“The British Grand Prix is one that I really enjoy and I’m very keen to try a Moto2 bike for the first time there on such a fast layout. I have never won in the past on this track but it is one that I really enjoy riding on and this weekend I hope to do a great result. I hope to recover some of the feeling with the bike I didn’t seem to have in Austria, which was a disappointing weekend, but like always myself and my team will work hard to be back at the front where we need to be.”
