Di Meglio eyes historic podium in first MotoE showdown
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Mike di Meglio will try to claim a milestone podium finish from fourth on the grid when the new FIM Enel MotoE World Cup kicks off in Germany tomorrow.
- Frenchman di Meglio went into the exciting and dramatic first ever E-Pole session at the Sachsenring brimming with confidence after setting the fastest time at the end of two practice sessions yesterday.
- After being fastest in practice, di Meglio was last out on track for the special one-lap shootout for pole position and he knew Niki Tuuli, Hector Garzo and Eric Granado had all lapped faster than his FP1 benchmark of 1:28.547.
- The former 125cc World Champion went faster in one lap than he did in 23 laps yesterday and his fastest pace of 1:28.384 was only 0.130s away from the front row.
- Tomorrow’s ground-breaking inaugural MotoE World Cup race at Germany’s Sachsenring will be staged over eight-laps and is scheduled to get underway at 10am local time.
Mike di Meglio: 4th, 1.28.384, 1 lap
“I will try to make sure we are in the battle to be on the podium in such a historic race”
“After such a good Friday, we didn’t want to change the bike. We wanted to make some adjustments to improve the set-up but Friday was so good we decided not to take unnecessary risks. The times were very fast and I am quite happy with my lap. Maybe I could have been a little bit faster in the first corner but I didn’t want to make a mistake so early in the lap. After that I pushed at 100% in each corner and in just one lap I was faster than practice yesterday. Now we need to think about the race and try make sure we are in the battle to be on the podium in such a historic race. Compared to the race simulation I did recently in Valencia I am much closer to the front and hopefully I can fight for the podium.”
