Di Meglio holds his nerve for first MotoE triumph!
Mike Di Meglio wins the second ever MotoE race after a tense fight with Hector Garzo and now leads the MotoE World Cup standings from Bradley Smith.
- In wet conditions, the 18 riders had just two sighting laps to get a feel for the 2.6-mile Austrian Red Bull Ring and Michelin’s wet tyres.
- Mike Di Meglio started the five-lap race brilliantly from pole position, and took control of the race on the exit of turn one.
- The Frenchman lost the lead to Eric Granado on lap three, but a crash for the Brazilian on the following lap handed Di Meglio the lead.
- After a spirited late push from Hector Garzo, Di Meglio defended brilliantly on the final lap as his rival crashed. He won by 2.2 seconds ahead of Xavier Simeon and Bradley Smith, a result that gives him a five-point championship lead.

“We’ve done an incredible weekend and an incredible race”
“I’m very happy. We’ve done an incredible weekend and an incredible race. We had just two sighting laps and I felt very good on the bike. I tried to push and I saw then I was faster than everybody. I knew [Eric] Granado would be there because during the test at Jerez he was very fast. When he passed me I tried to stay behind, and I was quite OK there. But when he crashed I knew the limit was not so far away. After I tried to manage the race, made a small gap to the others but on the last lap I saw [Hector] Garzo was coming back to me. At turn four I braked very late because I knew I was strong there. My front was jumping around and I nearly went out of the track. Then I saw the screen at the next left and he was not there. I knew my strategy worked well! I want to thank the team because we worked well, I’m leading the championship and we need to continue like this.”

“We got our first victory and we’re very proud of it”
“It feels really good. It’s been a special weekend for the MotoE project because we got out first pole position and then the first race victory today. I’m really happy for that. I knew Mike was really good in these conditions. Of course the race was only five laps and it was so important to not make any mistakes. He did it perfectly, we got our first victory and we’re very proud of it.”
