Arbolino just misses second row in promising Dutch qualifying
Tony Arbolino continued his strong weekend in the Netherlands on Saturday by qualifying 7th for the Dutch GP at the TT Circuit Assen.
- Conditions were red hot for Moto2 qualifying at the legendary Dutch Circuit on Saturday afternoon, with riders competing under blue skies and in track temperatures of 50 degrees – comfortably the hottest of the weekend.
- Tony Arbolino is now the lone representative for Elf Marc VDS Racing Team after Filip Salac was ruled out of action due to a heavy crash in Friday’s P1 session. The Czech rider suffered cranial trauma with a small hemorrhagic contusion in the fall.
- Filip stayed in hospital on Friday night as a precaution and was discharged this morning. The Czech rider will go home in the next few hours to rest and recover before undergoing medical examinations in the coming week to determine whether he can compete in the upcoming German GP.

- Having found a setting on Friday that gave him much better confidence in the front end through fast corners, Tony’s crew didn’t make many overnight changes to set-up. And the Italian’s confidence continued to grow in the morning P2 session as he placed 7th.
- Arbolino was once again competitive in Q2 and set his fastest time on his penultimate lap. He was poised to go faster until he saved a spectacular front-end moment on his elbow at Turn 5. Although he lost a place in the final seconds of the session, this still represents his 2nd best qualifying performance of the year”
“I’m flowing on the bike and able to risk ”
“It’s been a tough qualifying for us. I had a few risky moments so I wasn’t able to reach my best performance levels in the 15 minutes. Anyway, I’m quite happy with my feeling this weekend. I’m flowing on the bike and able to risk a lot but with everything under control. I’m feeling quite confident with regards to tomorrow’s race. I’m ready to get a good result so I’ll be aiming for a strong start and then to tag onto the back of the fastest guys. Let’s go for it and see what we can do!”
