Ninth and tenth for Marc VDS duo in sizzling Spanish qualifying

Jake Dixon (9th) and Filip Salac (10th) will start from the 3rd and 4th rows respectively after competitive qualifying showings on a baking hot Saturday at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto.

Conditions were once again optimum on qualifying day at the Spanish Grand Prix, with Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s Jake Dixon and Filip Salac riding in track temperatures of 43 degrees during Q2.

The packaged grandstands and endless traffic queues outside the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto on Saturday morning and afternoon showed MotoGP has never been popular in Spain.

While both riders were hoping for better qualifying positions, Dixon and Salac were the first two Boscoscuro riders in qualifying for the 5th Moto2 round of 2025.

Jake Dixon, 9th – 1’40.276

As he did on Friday afternoon, Jake was capable of setting a consistent pace in FP2 on Saturday morning, as he placed 7th, 0.7s off the fastest time.

While the 29-year old was matching the times of the leaders through sectors 1, 2 and 3, he was losing crucial time in the 4th and final sector throughout the day.

Grip was at a premium during qualifying. Even if the Briton posted his best time of the weekend toward the end of Q2, he was 9th, 0.4s off pole sitter Manuel Gonzalez.

“Overall, it was another positive day here in Jerez. We put it on the third row. The result isn’t obviously what we want but it wasn’t for a lack of trying from me or the team. We’re doing the best job we could possibly do right now. Step by step we’re making some good improvements in some areas. And there are still some areas of performance where we can make the bike better, and take a step forward. We’ll be aiming to do that this afternoon and evening. I’m ready for the race. It’s going to be a long one and I’m confident we can be consistent. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow.”

Filip Salac, 10th – 1’40.303

Filip was midway through a longer run in FP2 when he stopped to make adjustments when suffering from a lack of rear grip.

The changes made by his crew helped even if they didn’t show in the time sheets. The Czech rider placed 16th in FP2.

As temperatures rose in the afternoon, the Czech rider lacked requisite rear feel in Q2. He was just 0.4s off pole position at the close of qualifying, as he placed 10th.

“A good day today. In the morning during our long run my rear grip wasn’t perfect. So, I stopped to try and make a change to something to give me a better feeling. It was a bit better. Then in qualifying, conditions were obviously hotter and more difficult. We had no rear grip at all. In the end we got a top ten. It’s a shame – I wanted to be ninth and on the third row. We still have a lot of work to do for tomorrow to check all the data and see which settings we’ll use for the race. Deciding on which tyres to use will be a difficult choice as well. I can’t wait for tomorrow and am confident we can put a good race together.”
