Dixon to launch Le Mans podium challenge from second row

Jake Dixon was pushed back from 2nd to 6th in the closing minutes of Moto2 Q2 at the Le Mans Circuit, while Filip Salac was a place behind in 7th.

The legendary French fans turned up in their tens of thousands once again to watch qualifying for the 6th round of the 2025 Moto2 season, with the main grandstands packed to capacity on Saturday.

Conditions were close to perfect as Moto2 running took place under clear blue skies and in ambient temperatures of 14 degrees (FP2) and 21 degrees (Q2).

Lap times were exceptionally fast with the top 9 riders in qualifying under last year’s lap record around the historic 4.19km circuit.

Jake Dixon, 6th – 1’34.682

Kicking on from a solid opening day, the 29-year old was immediately on the pace in FP2. He posted a highly consistent 18-lap run with 14 of those in the 1’35s. He ended 9th overall.

Jake started Q2 in sensational style. He was under the previous lap record with his first flying lap to briefly lead the standings.

However, the Briton was unable to improve that time in his second run. Sat 2nd when the chequered flag was first shown, Jake was pushed back to 6th after a slew of improvements from other riders.

“It was another good day here in Le Mans. We had a solid performance in qualifying and got on the first two rows, which was the aim for today. I didn’t quite have anything at the end of Q2 to improve my lap time, but 6th was still good going. We need to analyse everything tonight and go through the data and see if we can put the best bike together for me tomorrow. I’m feeling good and am looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”

Filip Salac, 7th – 1’34.711

Like his team-mate, Filip used FP2 to post a mini-race simulation and did 18 laps back-to-back. 15 of those laps were in the ultra-competitive 1’35s as he finished 3rd overall.

The Czech rider had a strong first stint in Q2 with his first flying lap putting him in 10th.

But the 23-year old knew he had more to give. Even if he was unable to post a flawless lap, his 6th lap of the session was good enough for a place at the front of the 3rd row.

“It was a good day today. In the morning we showed we had really good pace and finished in P3. We knew we could do a really good time in the qualifying session. But, unfortunately, we finished 7th. We can do better. I was half a tenth from the first row and with the perfect lap I know I could have been up there. But it wasn’t meant to be. I’m a bit upset but let’s move on to tomorrow and see how the weather will be. I want to say thanks to the team because we’re both in good shape this weekend. Let’s give it our all tomorrow!”
