Flying Salac start at Silverstone

Filip Salac recovered from an early crash on Friday afternoon to place 3rd in Moto2 Practice at the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom while Jake Dixon was 8th.

The historic Silverstone Circuit hosts the 7th round of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship this weekend, with the 18-corner 5.9km layout providing plenty of challenges for the field.

Conditions were positive throughout. There were sunny spells throughout Friday, with the cool ambient temperatures of 14 degrees in FP1 giving way to 19 degrees during Practice.

With poor weather forecast for Saturday, it was important to experiment with settings in today’s 2 sessions to prepare for Sunday.

Jake Dixon, 8th – 2’03.019

The winner of last year’s race at this circuit started the day in bullish fashion, and was competitive throughout as he set the 2nd fastest time.

Jake and his crew used the day to test a number of settings to give the Briton more confidence in high-speed corners. His 9-lap run at the start of Practice with 4 of those in the competitive 2’03s.

The 29-year was then caught in traffic in the final minutes of Practice, which meant he wasn’t able to set an ideal time.

“Today was a day of testing. We tried a few things to understand the bike better. We tried to resolve a few of the things I’ve been struggling with in the past few weeks. There were some positives to come from it, but a few negatives as well. So tonight, we need to sit down with the team to understand a few things, and try and put our best set-up together. It’s not been the easiest of days. But let’s keep pushing and we’ll see where we’re at tomorrow.”

Filip Salac, 3rd – 2’02.700

Filip felt comfortable from the 1st moments of FP1, when he was able back up for his team-mate. He ended the session in 5th, just over 0.1s off 2nd place.

The Czech rider had planned to do a longer run at the start of Practice, but a crash at Turn 13 early on put paid to that idea.

Thanks to some stellar work by the 23-year old’s mechanics, he was back out for the final 10 minutes, when he was able to set the 3rd fastest time of the day.

“It was a good day here in Silverstone. This is a track where I’m normally struggling. But from the first lap this morning I was feeling quite good. In the afternoon we knew we had to make some changes to improve as we’re still having a few issues turning the bike. We’re missing a bit of grip with the front as well. I crashed on the second lap of Practice. I’m sorry for the team as we were prepared to do a long run but that’s what happens when you’re trying to go fast. In the end I was able to improve with a new tyre and I did a really fast lap behind Jake. Thanks to him for the tow. We still have a lot to do because (Manuel) Gonzalez is a step ahead of everyone. We’re doing our best but we know tomorrow will be better. Let’s see how the weather will be. If it will be wet it could be a bit trickier for us but I’m ready to enjoy it.”
