Fighting fifth for Salac in Aragon showdown

Filip Salac scored his best result of 2025 to date by taking 5th on the last lap at Motorland Aragon while Jake Dixon came home in 13th.

The Motorland Aragon Circuit was bathed in sunshine for a 3rd straight day with the 19-lap Moto2 race taking place in baking hot ambient temperatures of 24 degrees.

The low grip conditions at the track meant front tyre choice was something of an unknown. Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s Jake Dixon (soft) and Filip Salac (medium) went for contrasting options.

A total of 50,062 fans were in attendance on Sunday to watch the 8th round of the 2025 season.

Jake Dixon, 13th

Starting 14th, Jake had a decent start and held station on the first lap. Yet by lap 3, he had dropped two places.

The Briton didn’t have the optimum feeling with his package which meant he struggled to make forward progress. But he still rode a consistent race and took important points for 13th.

Jake now sits 5th in the championship standings with 85 points to his name.

“I don’t really know what to say to be honest. It was a tough race and I didn’t have the feeling or the speed I needed to make decent progress forward. The result isn’t ideal, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. I’m just trying to stay positive. We’re in the situation we’re in at the moment, so there’s no point in getting down. The truth is I didn’t feel particularly great with the bike this weekend. The good thing is we have a test in Barcelona in a few days and we need to get back toward the front, where we belong. Well done to Filip and his side of the box. He showed the Boscoscuro can be there, fighting at the front and we need to do better next time.”

Filip Salac, 5th

Filip got an amazing launch from 7th on the grid to sit 5th on the 1st lap, just back of the early fight for the podium.

The Czech rider did exceptionally well to maintain a consistent pace in red hot conditions to reel in Aron Canet ahead. A neat pass on the final lap ensured he could finish 5th, just 5s back of victor Deniz Oncu.

This result sees Filip jump up to 11th in the championship standings with 48 points.

“Really happy with today’s race. I came into today thinking, ‘Today’s result will either be really good or really bad!’ Luckily it was good. The guys did a great job with the bike and from the first lap, I was feeling confident. I had a good start and passed two riders at the first corner, which wasn’t easy. Then there was a collision and I was lucky I missed it. From there I was trying to control the tyres and to keep the front group within reach. I passed (Alonso) Lopez around mid-race distance and tried to reel in the first group. But it was difficult because I did a mistake and lost a bit of time. Another rider passed me and I was in P6. Then I had the strength to pass Canet on the last lap. So, I’m delighted overall. Thanks to the team for their efforts this weekend. It’s great that we’re moving in the right direction!”
