SUPERPOLE RACE: 6TH
RACE 2: 7TH

For the 3rd day in succession the weather was scorching hot in the east of Italy, with track temperatures peaking at a sweltering 48 degrees during Race 2 on Sunday.

The day started in promising fashion for Sam. Keen to improve his stopping capabilities after finishing 6th in Race 1, the Briton was competitive in morning Warm-Up, when he set the 4th quickest time.

Starting the Superpole Race from 9th on the grid, the 34-year old held station on the 1st lap before picking off positions as the 10-lap race wore on.

Sam was soon involved in a close 4-rider fight for 5th with Alvaro Bautista, Jonathan Rea and Remy Gardner. Having passed Gardner on lap 6, the Briton secured 6th by passing Rea on the penultimate lap.

Thanks to his strong Superpole Race performance, Sam started Race 2 from 6th on the grid. And after a tricky start, he picked off 2 positions to sit 7th on lap 6.

Sam was able to hold a consistent pace throughout. He was the 5th fastest rider on track after posting a 1’34.233 time on lap 15. Having climbed to 6th on lap 13, he lost 1 place on the final lap to come home 7th.

It capped another consistent weekend for Lowes. The 22 points he scored during this weekend’s 3 races is the joint 2nd highest number he has managed over a race weekend in his WorldSBK career.

The fact Sam never finished a race this weekend outside the top 7 consolidated his 6th place in the overall standings. He now has 124 points with his home race at Donington Park up next in mid-July.

“We managed to finish all three races with some solid performances”

“We had really tough conditions here at Misano on Sunday. It was very, very hot, even in the Superpole race. We chose the tyre for the longer race in the Superpole race. I was coming faster at the end but couldn’t recover all the time we lost at the start. But I still think it was a good choice because it set us up for the afternoon. In the main race we went for the harder front tyre option. I’m not saying it was the wrong choice as it had some good and bad points. But I just missed a bit of performance and then it dropped a bit at the end. We probably expected a little bit more than P7. But it’s not been the easiest of weekends. We had a few issues and missed some track time. And I know I need to work on my riding and smooth it out a bit in this heat. But I want to say a big thank you to the team. This weekend could’ve been a lot worse yet we managed to finish all three races with some solid performances. Now I’m already looking forward to racing at home at Donington in a month’s time!”
