Dixon bags podium in shortened Sachsenring thriller

Despite being hit by two riders, Jake Dixon recovered to finish 3rd in the German Grand Prix, while Filip Salac was 10th.

Despite spits of rain falling around the historic Sachsenring circuit, the 11th Moto2 race of 2025 was held in dry conditions and moderate ambient temperatures of 19 degrees.

The 25-lap race was red flagged on the 20th lap after a collision between Albert Arenas and Marcos Ramirez punctured the air fence at Turn 1.

There was a fantastic attendance of 98,573 at the track in the east of Germany on Sunday with the grandstands around the 3.67km track packed to capacity.

Jake Dixon, 3rd

Starting from his 2nd pole position of the year, Jake had to recover from 7th after being pushed wide by another rider at the race’s 1st turn.

The 29-year old quickly recovered to 3rd and was saving his rear tyre before he was tagged by another rider from behind on lap 16, which lost him 1.7s. The Briton was then in the process of catching the lead pair when red flags were shown.

Jake’s 3rd podium of the year sees him maintain 4th place in the championship standings with 114 points.

“It was a really good day. I’m a bit frustrated as I was pushed wide at the first corner and then hit by another rider, which lost me crucial time. I felt like I was always having to play catch up from there. And I had been saving my rear tyre for the final laps, and felt I could have caught the guys up ahead had they not put out the red flag. I really felt like I could have won today. But apart from that, I have to be happy because this weekend could have turned out a whole load worse after yesterday’s big crash. I’m really happy. I want to say a big thanks to the team and everyone involved. Now we’re moving on to Brno, where we went testing last week. I’m looking forward to Filip’s home race so I can see him deal with the pressure of his home GP! He’s like a king there so I can’t wait to see King Filip perform!”

Filip Salac, 10th

Starting from 14th, Filip had a steady start to the race and was sat in 15th after the 1st lap as he attempted to save his rear tyre for the closing laps.

From there, the 23-year old set about recovering places. Despite feeling discomfort from the right shoulder he injured two weeks ago in Assen, he fought through to finish 10th.

Filip’s 7th top ten of the year means he now sits 12th in the championship standings with 58 points.

“It wasn’t the best for us. We were starting 14th and I didn’t get a bad start. But this track is so tight and it’s very difficult to manage the first lap. It’s difficult to build up a gap on the rider behind and super easy to lose time. In the first five laps I chose to save the tyre, which was the wrong choice because after when I tried to push, the tyre was in the same condition as the other riders. I also used up too much of the front tyre because I was using it to turn a lot. That then gave me more problems than the rear tyre, which is a shame because my pace wasn’t so different to the guys in front. Also, I had a lot of pain in my shoulder but that wasn’t a big thing. I want to say sorry to the team for the first five laps, as I chose the wrong strategy. The next race is my home GP. I can’t wait to get to Brno and I believe we can bounce back and have a strong weekend!”
