Tough end to Sunday for Marc VDS duo in Misano
Jake Dixon’s San Marino GP was impacted by an incident on the first lap as he went on to finish 16th while Filip Salac was 18th.
Overnight rain did little to affect track conditions ahead of the Moto2 race, which got underway at 12.15 local time. Elf Marc VDS Racing Team riders Jake Dixon and Filip Salac rode in under overcast skies and ambient temperatures of 26 degrees.
It was a red-hot pace at the front of Sunday’s Moto2 race, with Celestino Vietti’s race-winning time over 10s faster than last year’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was packed throughout the weekend and 91,671 fans were in attendance on Sunday.
Jake Dixon, 16th
Starting 9th on the grid, Jake had a decent start. But a moment for another rider at Turn 6 forced him to lift up, run off track and rejoin in 15th.
The Briton then mounted a comeback to sit 12th. But Jake started struggling with rear tyre wear in the closing laps and dropped to 16th.
Today’s result sees Jake remain 5th in the championship standings with 152 points.
“I don’t really know what happened today. We’ve been fast all weekend, but today was a struggle. We had a bit of contact early on, which pushed us back a bit, but I just had no pace, so I was fighting a losing battle. We need to sit down and go over everything before Japan and try to be back at the front again.”
Filip Salac, 18th
Launching from 18th on the grid, Filip had a tricky first lap, and dropped three places to sit 21st.
The Czech rider hasn’t felt comfortable with his set-up all weekend. Even still he could make a comeback to 18th in the remaining laps.
After 16 races Filip sits 15th in the championship standings with 79 points.
“It’s been the hardest weekend of the season in Misano. It’s tough after being strong in Barcelona. It’s difficult to take. From Friday morning I was struggling with the bike. Today in the race I felt better. From the beginning, one guy pushed me wide and I lost some positions. Then I got stuck behind (Darryn) Binder. I wasn’t able to pass him. Then the pace was OK – the same as the riders fighting for the top ten. But I lost so much from the beginning. In the end we finished out of the points. It was the worst weekend of the year but let’s regroup from this and get ready for the next one.”
