Alex Marquez will start seventh at the Sachsenring
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Alex Marquez and Joan both qualified in the top ten for the German Grand Prix and will share the third row of the grid.
In near perfect summer weather at the Sachsenring the tightly contested qualifying session saw Marquez and Mir separated by just 13 hundredths of a second.
In a brave recovery from a fast and heavy highside crash in the morning FP3 session Marquez qualified seventh with a time of 1’24.079, just 0.1s off the front row.
Moto2 rookie Mir will start alongside his teammate from position eight with time of 1’24.092 — just 0.3s off pole — having been fourth fastest after FP3.
Both Marquez and Mir predict a physically demanding 28 lap race on the twisting Sachsenring layout.
The warm-up session for Moto2 will be at 9:10am with the 24 lap race timed to to start at 12:20pm.
Álex Márquez: 7th – 1’24.079
“I am quite happy to be seventh after my crash this morning even though I always aim to be in the first two rows. I’m OK after the crash, just some bruises, so in qualifying I concentrated on recovering my feeling with the bike. We had a small problem on final exit and I could not improve my time but I am positive we have a good rhythm for the race, it will be very long.”
Joan Mir: 8th – 1’24.092
“I am satisfied but not completely happy even though the times are very close and I’m just three tenths off pole. The good thing is that I have a strong pace for the race and if we can find just a little more rear grip in the warm-up I think I can fight for the top positions.”
