All-action seventh for Salac in sizzling Aragon qualifying

Filip Salac brushed aside a crash at the close of Q1 to qualify 7th for Sunday’s Moto2 race at the Motorland Aragon Circuit, while Jake Dixon was 14th.

Heat was the order of the day on Saturday at the Motorland Circuit in the Teruel region of Spain, with sweltering conditions greeting Elf Marc VDS Racing Team riders Jake Dixon and Filip Salac through the day.

After riding in relatively cool track temperatures in FP2 of 29 degrees, they rose to as high as 51 degrees during Moto2 qualifying. The all-time Moto2 lap record was broken in both sessions.

The 8th race of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship will be held over 19 laps on Sunday and starts at 12:15 local time.

Jake Dixon, 14th – 1’50.796

After pitting early in FP2, Jake put together a promising 9-lap run toward the close of the session which demonstrated excellent consistency. Despite placing 12th, he posted 7 laps in the highly competitive 1’51s.

In Q2 the 29-year old was unable to find a slipstream that would have been a decent marker ahead on track, meaning he did most of his running alone.

Two late laps in the 1’50s saw the Briton climb to 6th place but he was eventually shuffled back to 14th at the close of the session.

“Today’s result wasn’t what we were hoping for but I’m trying to take the positives from it. We made some improvements with the bike but I just didn’t get the slipstream that everyone else managed to catch in qualifying. Unfortunately, the usual routine of Filip and I following each other didn’t work out in Q2. But compared to how we were feeling in the first session of the weekend, I’m feeling better on the bike. We’ll have to fight through and make some overtakes tomorrow. We’ll be ready to give our all and let’s see what we can do on Sunday.”

Filip Salac, 7th – 1’50.500

Filip was sure his 16th place on Friday afternoon was not representative of his overall potential. He showed this was the case in FP3, when he placed 7th despite spending much of the session on Pirelli’s harder front tyre option.

The 23-year old had an eventful Q1 to say the least. Soon after posting the 4th fastest time, he tucked the front at Turn 7 and crashed, which meant he couldn’t set another time in during that session.

But after pushing his bike to get restarted, his crew did a fantastic job to get him out for Q2. Despite another big front end scare at Turn 1 early on, his penultimate lap was enough for 7th and the top Boscoscuro bike on the grid.

“It was a good day. In the morning I was one of not many riders that went with the hard front tyre and the bike was working quite well. We were missing a little compared to the others but I think it’s going to be positive for the race. In Q1 I was lucky I was able to make a lap time at the beginning. Then when I put new tyres in and went, I had a crash on the first lap. Luckily, I stayed in the top four. I was quite tired because I had to push the bike quite some way to get it back to the box. It was then difficult to focus. I did a good lap in Q2 but they cancelled it because of yellow flags. Finally, I could improve by 0.15s. I think if I had a bit more space to the rider in front I could’ve gone even faster. But we’re ready for tomorrow’s race. The top nine was my target and we did it. Thanks to my guys for repairing my bike so quickly after Q1. I can’t wait to get stuck in in the race tomorrow.”
