Aragon kicks off intense run for Elf Marc VDS Racing

The Elf Marc VDS Racing Team is ready to tackle the busiest month in the 2024 Moto2 World Championship, with Tony Arbolino and Filip Salac due to race four times in an intense September.

  • A hectic spell of nine rounds in 12 weeks kicks off this weekend with the MotorLand Aragon track returning to the Grand Prix schedule for the first time since 2022.
  • Following a superb double top 10 last time out in Austria, Arbolino and Salac are eager to impress once again when the action in Aragon gets underway at 950am local time on Friday ahead of Sunday’s 19-lap race that is scheduled for lights out at 1215pm.

/// TONY ARBOLINO

  • Boosted by a season best fifth place earlier this month at the stop and go Spielberg track, Arbolino brings confidence and momentum to round 12 at MotorLand Aragon near the historic town of Alcaniz.
  • The Italian finished in a strong fifth position at Aragon on his last visit two years ago after qualifying on the third row of the grid.
  • That fifth place is Arbolino’s best result in six previous appearances at MotorLand Aragon, but the 24-year-old boasts an impressive run of four successive top 10 finishes at the 5.077km track.

“The next target is to finish on the podium”

It was a great feeling to be back in the top five again in Austria because it means we come to Aragon with a lot of motivation and optimism. We have made a lot of progress and raised our level a lot in the last races, and we need to demonstrate we can continue in this positive way in Aragon. Our next target is to finish on the podium and that is what I hope to be fighting for this weekend.”

/// FILIP SALAC

  • Salac was rewarded for his recent hard work and never give up attitude with a season first top 10 in the Austrian Grand Prix and now the Czech rider is determined to build some momentum moving into the final phase of the season.
  • The 22-year-old qualified 12th in the 2022 Moto2 clash in Aragon but just missed out on a points scoring finish when he crossed the line in 17th position at the end of 21 laps.
  • Salac’s best finish at MotorLand Aragon came with a hard-fought 13th place in a thrilling 2020 Teruel Moto3 Grand Prix. Just 2.745s split the points scoring finishers in what remains the 10th closest top 15 in lightweight World Championship history.

“We can be fighting for the top 10 again”

“I’m really looking forward to racing again in Aragon this weekend. I feel positive after a strong result in Austria which we followed up with a very good day of testing as well. Aragon is a fast and technical track which I like but it features a lot of left turns. That is a little concern for me right now because the left knee I injured during the recent test session in Aragon is still causing me some pain. We will need to manage that over the weekend, but I believe if everything goes well there is no reason why I can’t be fighting for the top 10 again.”
