Confidence high as Rabat and Márquez head to Silverstone
Gosselies, Belgium – 25 August 2015: Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders, Tito Rabat and Álex Márquez, go into this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone looking to build on their strong performances last time out in Brno.
Rabat took a hard fought second place in the Czech Republic, but heads to Silverstone with the top step of the podium well and truly in his sights. The 26-year-old Spaniard, who won from the second row of the grid at Silverstone last year, currently trails championship leader Johann Zarco by 79 points, a gap he is keen to close this weekend in Great Britain.
But it’s not just Zarco that Rabat has his eye on. The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider reclaimed second place in the championship standings in Brno, but leads his compatriot Álex Rins by just a single point, a margin that he is determined to increase at Silverstone.
Rabat may be assisted in his goals this weekend by his Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS teammate Márquez, who heads into the Silverstone race with his confidence at an all time high after a fourth place finish in Brno, the best result of his rookie Moto2 season to date. The reigning Moto3 World Champion has stated that a podium finish is his target in the second half of the season and the ultra fast nature of the Silverstone circuit, where he finished on the podium in the Moto3 race last year, may well provide him with an ideal opportunity to achieve this goal.
The weather is always a concern at Silverstone, where the infamous British summer can bring sunshine, rain and wind, sometimes all in the same day. However, while rain is expected on Thursday, the forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday remains relatively good.
Tito Rabat:
“Silverstone is really one of my favourite tracks. It’s old style, very wide but quite technical, with a good variety of corners, both fast and slow, together with some long straights, hard braking areas and chicanes. It’s a track at which the rider can make a big difference and I always enjoy racing at Silverstone. We’ll need to keep an eye on the weather, like always in England, but the forecast looks good at the moment and even if it does rain, it’s not so much of an issue as this is a track that retains a lot of grip in the wet. I’m happy to be racing at Silverstone this weekend and I will be pushing hard to improve on the result in Brno.”
Álex Márquez:
“I’m happy to go to Silverstone after my best result of the season at Brno, because the confidence and motivation, both of myself and the team, is very high. We made some steps forward in Brno and now we need to continue in the same direction, which means working hard but also enjoying riding the bike. I have had a really good feeling before at Silverstone, where I finished second in Moto3 last year, and I’m sure the track will be equally enjoyable on the Moto2 bike. Our focus this weekend will be to find some improvements in the last part of the race, but we have some ideas and I’m confident we can make another step ahead of the race. I’m looking forward to the weekend ahead and I think we can come away on Sunday with another good result.”
