Dixon in the top ten fight after first day at Aragon
Jake Dixon was the fastest Boscoscuro mounted rider at the Motorland Aragon Circuit on Friday as he placed 7th in Practice, while Filip Salac was 16th.
Near perfect conditions greeted Elf Marc VDS Racing Team riders at the Motorland Aragon Circuit on Friday with track temperatures peaking at 46 degrees in the afternoon.
The lap times were fast as a result, with the absolute Moto2 lap record being broken by over 0.4s in the Practice session.
Both Jake and Filip will be back on track on Saturday for two sessions with FP2 starting at 09:25 local time and qualifying getting underway at 13:45.
Jake Dixon, 7th – 1’51.010
In a highly competitive FP1 session on Friday morning, Jake jumped up the order late on to place 7th and put his name in the mix.
The Briton admitted he was unable to put together a clean, consistent run of laps in the afternoon Practice session as he managed one effort in the 1’51s during a 7-lap run.
Despite narrowly avoided disaster with a big rear end moment at Turn 10, the 29-year old was the fastest Boscoscuro chassis in the afternoon with a time that was just 0.4s off the top.
“I was a bit scrappy in the last part of this afternoon’s session. I wasn’t so happy with myself. I kept making mistakes on the laps we were putting together. I had a moment at Turn 10, lost the rear and it would’ve been massive if I’d crashed. I’m trying to always respect the limits of what’s beneath me and not hurt myself. But overall, it’s pretty positive here at the moment. I’m not exactly where I want to be but I’m trying to be upbeat and to keep chipping away at it. Realistically, our pace is the same as where we finished today: we’re between fifth to seventh at the minute. We need to keep working away and try to fight for that top five on Sunday.”
Filip Salac, 16th – 1’51.393
Filip had a solid start to the day by placing 12th in FP1 as he lapped the fast, technical 5.08km track withing 0.75s of the fastest rider.
Over an 8-lap run at the beginning of Practice, the 23-year old was able to display plenty of potential by posting two laps in the highly-competitive 1’51s.
Yet the Czech rider’s strategy didn’t quite go to plan at the close of the afternoon traffic got in the way. He was unable to improve and finished 0.8s off the top, but feels he has plenty more to give.
“I’d say it was a good day for us. We were quite fast. The only thing was we didn’t put a nice lap all together. If you check the fastest sector times, we’ve been much better than what you see in the final lap times. It’s a shame that the strategy didn’t go as planned in Practice. Jake had a moment at Turn 10 and we had to cut the corner. Then there were other riders mixed in the group, so it was difficult to go faster. In the last sector I was improving, but in the last sector you need a lot of rear grip, and I already had seven laps on the rear tyre. So, it just didn’t handle through the last turns. I’m not worried about tomorrow. I think we can go through to Q2 and I hope we’ll be able to qualify in the top nine. If we do that, we’ll be able to do a good race on Sunday.”
