Dixon victorious in shortened Sepang outing!

Jake Dixon dominated proceedings in an 11-lap Moto2 Sprint to claim a third victory of the season, while Filip Salac retired due to technical issues.

Originally planned to go ahead at 13.15 local time, the 17-lap Moto2 race was pushed back to a 16.30 start time due to a Moto3 incident earlier in the day which caused a long delay.

The Moto2 race was then red flagged after two laps due to a crash at the final corner. The restart was held over 11 laps.

After cloudy conditions through Friday and Saturday, the Petronas Sepang International Circuit was bathed in sunshine for Sunday’s Moto2 race with ambient temperatures reaching a punishing 34 degrees.

A bumper crowd of 190,977 were at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit over the weekend to watch the 20th round of the 2025 season.

Jake Dixon, 1st

Starting from 3rd place and the inside of the front row, Jake got an excellent start and slotted into 2nd after a tough scrap with Albert Arenas on the first lap.

The Briton then chased down early leader Dani Holgado and passed him for the lead on lap three. From there, he was able to stretch his lead out to 2s to take a third victory of the year, and sixth podium finish.

This result sees Jake climb one place to 4th in the championship standings with 215 points.

“First and foremost I want to wish the boys in Moto3 a speedy recovery because that was a horrible crash to see. But that race is dedicated to my grandad. That was so, so good. I’m so happy. I’ve been waiting since the early part of the season to come back to winning ways. People might hate me for saying this, but I cleaned up in that one! Also, a big shout out to the MotoGP physios here because I’ve had quite bad nerve pain in my right arm and a tingling sensation. There are so many people behind this result today, including my wife, daughter and all the team. It’s been a massive team effort. It’s not easy to get results like this today, but I’m happy to be one of the best at doing it.”

Filip Salac, DNF

Filip knew he had a tricky task ahead on Sunday when starting from 14th on the grid. But the Czech rider showed he was up for the fight as he climbed four places on lap one to sit 10th.

Just when it seemed Filip could aim for a top six result, he was then forced to retire on lap four due to a transmission issue, which meant it wasn’t safe to continue.

This result leaves Fillip 15th in the championship standings with 82 points.

“It was a difficult Sunday. After the restart, I made a good start and was fighting in the top 10 and felt like I had good pace bu ton lap four, I had a gearbox issue and had to pull off. It’s a shame because I felt like I could get a good result today. It’s been a pretty tough few races so I’m looking forward to going home to reset before the final two rounds of the year.”
