Eighth place for Salac in front of record home attendance
Filip Salac enjoyed a solid ride at the Brno Circuit on Sunday to come home in 8th place while Jake Dixon recovered from a tough 1st corner to finish 11th.
The fabulous Brno circuit was bathed in sunshine on Sunday with the 12th race of the 2025 Moto2 season taking place in comfortably the hottest conditions of the weekend as track temperatures rose to 44 degrees.
A lack of dry running through the weekend meant front tyre choice was a bit of a lottery for Elf Marc VDS Racing Team riders Jake Dixon and Filip Salac. The Briton chose the soft, with Filip on the medium.
There was a fantastic attendance of 95,720 at the track in Czechia to cheer on home hero Filip Salac with the grandstands around the 4.5km track packed to capacity.
Jake Dixon, 11th
Starting 7th on the grid, Jake had a good launch but was pushed wide at Turn 1 and then had another rider tag his rear tyre. That left him in a frustrating 13th at the end of lap 1.
From there, the 29-year old didn’t have the pace to run at the front but still fought until the end and gained two places in the last 3 laps to finish 11th.
This result sees Jake drop 1 place to 5th place in the championship standings with 119 points.
“It wasn’t an ideal day. At corner one I was out wide and from that point on it was difficult to come back. I was 14th or 15th on lap one. Honestly, I didn’t have the rhythm to go forward. Unfortunately, we made a small change to the setting today but it didn’t have the effect we hoped it would. We’ve got to do better. We’ve got to do better. That’s all I can say on that. I’m looking forward to having a few weeks off now when we can recharge the batteries before coming back with fresh energy in August.”
Filip Salac, 8th
Launching from 9th and the inside of the front row, home hero Filip enjoyed a strong 1st lap as he gained 3 places to sit 6th.
After losing a place to Celestino Vietti in the early laps, the 23-year old was then left to defend 7th from the charging Marcos Ramirez but had nothing left on the final lap.
Filip’s 8th top 10 in 12 races means he remains 12th in the championship standings with 66 points.
“It was a good day. It was a really tough race. It was my home GP and I enjoyed every lap like a small kid! But it wasn’t enough. I had some small problems with engine braking. It’s a big shame to finish the Grand Prix like this. But at least we finished. I think the fans enjoyed it a lot. It was one of the hardest weekends of my season and in the end, I think I managed all the extra attention and pressure quite well. Everyone is happy and now it’s the summer break. We will rest, go to Nacho’s wedding and then start the second part of the season with renewed energy. It was so important to finish today so I’m quite happy.”
