Eleventh for Dixon in hectic Assen qualifying
After a promising 1st run in Q2 at the TT Circuit Assen, Jake Dixon was shuffled back to 11th in a hectic session which saw Filip Salac crash and qualify 14th.
After the intense heat of Mugello, the Dutch TT has offered up some light relief with conditions overcast and cool on Saturday.
The heat was modest for the afternoon Q2 qualifying session, with Elf Marc VDS Racing Team riders Jake Dixon and Filip Salac riding in track temperatures of 32 degrees.
The 10th race of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship will be held over 22 laps on Sunday and starts at 12:15 local time.
Jake Dixon, 11th – 1’35.372
After missing the majority of Friday’s Practice session due to a technical issue, Jake maximised his track time in FP2 to fine tune race settings. He was 7th at the end of the 30 minutes.
Working with his team-mate in Q2, Jake was right in the mix during his 1st run. His 4th flying lap of the session put him on the provisional 1st row.
But the Briton was unable to improve on the 2nd run due to a lack of rear grip, meaning will start tomorrow’s race from the middle of the 4th row of the grid.
“I don’t really know what to say. I hate being negative but there’s always something happening at a crucial point in the weekend. Yesterday it was the engine. Today with my second tyre in qualifying, you could see on the data that I had zero grip. It was like I was riding on ice. It is what it is. For me, Moto2 seems quite dangerous at the moment. There should be so many penalties given out after what happened in that session. For example, another rider held me up in the chicane. If he doesn’t get a penalty, it’s a joke. Anyway, I feel we didn’t show our full potential in qualifying. I’m confident we have decent potential for the race, so let’s get stuck in tomorrow and try and fight back as much as we can.”
Filip Salac, 14th – 1’35.526
Filip enjoyed a solid start to the day in FP2, and worked on his rhythm for Sunday over a 15-lap run. He set his fastest time on his first flying lap, which was good enough for 9th.
Having topped Friday’s Practice, the 23-year old had high expectations going into Q2. He started the session positively, setting the 4th fastest time early on.
But Filip then suffered contact with another rider when that rider came back on line without checking, which caused him to crash. The Czech rider will be reviewed before the race to see if he can compete on Sunday.
