ELF Marc VDS Racing embarks on a new chapter in Jerez
A fresh chapter started for the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team in Jerez today, with the squad’s exciting new line-up of Aron Canet and Deniz Oncu beginning their preparations for the 2026 Moto2 World Championship
Just eight days after closing out the 2025 campaign in Valencia, today marked the dawn of a new era for the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team with all eyes already on next season and welcoming Canet and Oncu to the multiple Moto2 title-winning project
The pair completed 122 valuable laps on a day the duo spent familiarising themselves with their new crew while also commencing the task of adapting to the Boscoscuro machine they will race over 22 rounds in 2026
Aron Canet: 1:40.588, 56 laps
Canet started preparations for his seventh season in the Moto2 World Championship with a productive day of work as the vastly experienced Spaniard completed 56 laps of the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto.
The one-day outing in Andalucia gave the 26-year-old the perfect opportunity to reacquaint himself with the Boscoscuro chassis he last raced during the 2021 Moto2 World Championship campaign.
First impressions of the latest generation Boscoscuro were positive as Canet posted a personal best time of 1:40.588 in dry but cloudy conditions.
“It’s a pleasure to be riding for this team”
“Today was a great pleasure for me to finally start this new phase of my career with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team. Today was all about getting to know my new crew better and understanding the bike and we were able to do a very good job together. It is clear after just one day we have a lot of margin to improve but already I feel positive that we can be one of the strongest in 2026.”
Deniz Oncu: 140.808, 66 laps
The Jerez test was not only significant because it was the Turk’s Elf Marc VDS Racing debut, but it was also the first time he’s ridden a Moto2 machine since the Grand Prix of Czechia in Brno on July 20.
A training accident during the August summer break which left him with serious left leg injuries meant Oncu missed the last 10 rounds of 2025, so it was all the more impressive that he was able to post competitive lap times on his return to action.
Oncu completed 66 laps in Jerez and on his Boscoscuro debut he was less than 0.3s behind new colleague Canet.
“I head into the winter break with positive sensations”
“It feels great to start this new journey for me with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team. The atmosphere is cool and I’ve had a great welcome from everybody. So many things were new for me today. I’m in a new team on a new bike and I have been away from racing for such a long time with my leg injury. It almost felt like it was my first day as a rider again, so this test was all about recovering some feeling on the bike. I’m happy with how the test went and how my initial feelings were on the bike and the good thing is I can now head into the winter break with positive sensations.”
