Lowes charges into top six in Most battle
Sam Lowes and the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team delivered yet another impressive top six finish in the 2025 WorldSBK Championship at a cool and breezy Most in the Czech Republic today
After qualifying in ninth position, Lowes surged through into fourth place in the early stages of Race 1 before he took the chequered flag in a hard fought sixth after battling with Alex Lowes and Alvaro Bautista.
Lowes is back in action again tomorrow in the Superpole Race that is scheduled to start at 11am local time and Race 2 is due to kick off at 2pm.
// SAM LOWES: Superpole: 9th, Race 1: 6th
After finishing in a superb second position overall on Friday, Lowes backed himself to fight for the front row in Superpole this morning and it was clear once again he had the pace and potential to compete for the top three.
A brilliant final lap of 1.30.728 was the fourth quickest time of the session but that time was ruled out for yellow flags at the final corner, which meant the 34-year-old started the 22-lap Race 1 from the third row of the grid in ninth.
A sensational start and aggressive first corner saw Lowes gain four places on the opening lap, which created a battle for fourth that was very much a family affair against twin brother Alex.
Lowes attacked on his Ducati Panigale V4R on lap five to seize fourth, but Alex fought back and reclaimed the position seven laps later.
Only the top three of Toprak Razgatlioglu, Nicolo Bulega and Danilo Petrucci set fastest laps quicker than Lowes but despite his best efforts the Briton was unable to resist a late attack from Bautista in a thrilling late tussle for fifth.
“Sixth is a solid result and I’m sure I can be stronger tomorrow”
“Starting on the third row meant it was never going to be an easy task in Race 1. I knew we had the potential to be a lot higher up in Superpole and it’s a shame I lost my best lap with the yellow flags but rules are rules and I wasn’t the only rider that was caught out. I feel in Race 1 my pace wasn’t far off but not quite where I’d like it to be and that’s kind of been the story of the weekend. The second part of the race wasn’t easy but I feel we can make some changes to be stronger tomorrow. We just need to make the bike a bit calmer and that will help my rhythm. I’ve not done much racing in Most and there’s still a few tricks to this place that I need to pick up, so a sixth place is a solid start and I’m sure we can find that step we need tomorrow.”
