Lowes gains important experience in Misano
On another day of baking hot conditions on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, Elf Marc VDS Racing Team rider Sam Lowes ended round four of the WorldSBK Championship at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli with a hard-earned points scoring finish.
- Determined to bounce back from a second lap crash in this morning’s Superpole encounter when in top 10 contention, Lowes started the 21-lap Race 2 from 12th position on the grid in front of a huge Sunday crowd.
- With grip at a premium as track temperature once again peaked at 45 degrees, Lowes was in the heart of an intense early fight for the top 10 with the likes of Jonathan Rea and Andrea Iannone.
- Racing with Pirelli tyres in excessively hot conditions was a new experience for Lowes in his rookie WorldSBK season, but he built confidence and settled into a consistent rhythm and his efforts were rewarded with a 13th place finish at the chequered flag.

“It was important to get some experience in Race 2”
“It was a tough day and a tough weekend to be honest with the hot conditions making it very difficult. The results clearly weren’t what we expected, and I never really found a good feeling on the bike, and I certainly wasn’t riding in the best way. The team did a great job in trying to help give me the best bike possible and they were constantly making changes to try and make it easier for me. The crash in the Superpole race this morning didn’t help because with the soft rear tyre it pushed the front, and I was a little bit off line in a big group. Going into Race 2 it was just important to finish and get some experience and I managed to do that. We’ll analyse the data in the next few days to understand where we can improve and come back strong for my home round at Donington Park next time out.”
