Lowes gains points and experience on Sunday in Barcelona
Sam Lowes led the Superpole Race at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya before finishing 11th, and collected 4 points for 12th after struggling with a drop in the rear tyre in Race 2.
- Like Saturday’s Race 1, Lowes started the Superpole Race in thrilling fashion, leading early on before dropping back to sixth, and fighting among the leading group. The 33-year old lost several positions in the closing laps as he came home in 11th at the end of the 10-lap race.
- The Briton ultimately paid the price for a lack of experience in Race 2 as he circulated in 10th place early on. Even if Sam found it difficult to manage the drop of the rear tyre in the final laps, he hung on to gain great experience as well as important points for 12th.
- The 4 points collected at Round 2 of the 2024 season puts Sam 13th in the Championship standings with 18 points.

“It was a bit of a baptism of fire for me”
“Obviously it was a disappointing Race 2. P12 was not what we wanted. It was a bit of a baptism of fire for me as the drop of the tyre was really big. It was difficult for me to manage the last four or five laps. I guess it’s a bit of a lack of experience as the crash in yesterday’s race meant I missed the full race distance. I didn’t have that knowledge to improve today. In the end it was difficult, but I learnt a lot. I just wanted to finish the race. At least now we have some things we can improve for Assen. I want to say thank you to the team for the continued hard work but it was a difficult day for me. We’ll try to improve from here as it’s clear the speed is there. But the tyre life is something I need to work on and understand a lot better. I think it’s normal after coming here from Moto2 on a different bike and a different make of tyre. Step by step we’ll manage it and keep working hard.”
