Lowes ninth after falling from podium fight
Sam Lowes was able to bring home an important finish after crashing out of fourth place in Race 1 at Magny-Cours in France.
Lowes was running in a strong fourth in Race 1 after an exciting fight for third with brother Alex before a late crash at Turn 13.
Lowes believes some improvements under braking should ensure he is even more competitive in Sunday’s Superpolerace at 11am local time and Race 2 at 2pm.
// SAM LOWES: Superpole: 3rd, Race 1: 9th
Having placed 2nd in both of Friday’s sessions at the twisty, technical Magny-Cours, Sam was trying out some set-up changes in FP3 as he set the 11th fastest time.
Lowes delivered another super performance in Superpole with his best time of 1’35.282 good enough for 3rd and securing the Briton a fifth front row start of 2025.
In Race 1 Lowes got away to a great start and held on to 3rd place before Nicolo Bulega demoted him to 4th on lap three. The 34-year old was then involved in a tense fight with brother Alex for the final place on the podium.
Lowes acknowledged he didn’t have the same speed as his brother and was sat in a comfortable 4th even if the feeling with the front of his Ducati wasn’t ideal.
But a crash at Turn 13 on lap 19 cost him that position. Thankfully, Lowes was able to remount and finish in 9th, collecting 7 important points for his efforts.
“I showed early speed. Let’s come back refreshed tomorrow and see how we get on”
“It was a good qualifying today to be P3 on the grid. Then in the race I didn’t quite have the same rhythm that I was expecting to have. I had an OK start and showed early speed. I tried to pass Alex a couple of times but he was stronger. I had an unfortunate crash at the end when I had a big gap in front and a big gap behind. It was a silly one and we need to try and understand what happened. I was struggling a lot with the front, especially in Sector 4. So, let’s try and make some changes to help me with that and in that part of the track and try to improve. Let’s come back refreshed tomorrow and see how we get on.”
