Marquez and Mir battle strong winds at Aragon test day
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Moto2 riders complete a brief but valuable test at MotorLand Aragon.
Just 24 hours after Sunday’s Aragon GP Alex Marquez and Mir were back on track for a test that was run in sunny and warm weather but with a strong wind, which did not make for ideal conditions.
Alex Marquez combined an important evaluation of a 2019 spec Dunlop tire with the opportunity to use the windy conditions to simulate set-up options for next month’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. With a wind speed of 35 kph it was difficult to make comparisons against the calmer conditions for the race and Marquez did just four runs.
Joan Mir also completed a shortened test program because of the very windy conditions but the Moto2 rookie gained valuable experience while evaluating the 2019 Dunlop tyre and settings on his Kalex machine.
The next race in the Moto2 World Championship is the Thailand Grand Prix from October 5-7, the first of four consecutive flyaway races.
Alex Marquez:
“It was important to give feedback on the new Dunlop tyre”
“I didn’t do many laps, just four runs, and mainly to test a Dunlop tyre for next year and it was important to give them some feedback for 2019. The track was dusty and with a strong wind although that gave us the opportunity to try some set-up options for Australia where it is usually very windy at Phillip Island.”
Joan Mir:
“We tried some positive things for set-up for the next races”
“Because of the windy conditions it was not an ideal day for a productive test but we tried some positive things that will help us to set-up the bike at the coming races. It was useful to have some more information before we go to Thailand for the first of four overseas races.”
