Márquez and Vierge ready for Sachsenring challenge
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS arrives at the Sachsenring with renewed motivation and desire to bounce back from the disappointment of scoring no points in Assen, as Alex Márquez and Xavi Vierge aspire to fight for the podium in Germany.
- The MotoGP World Championship reaches the ninth round of the season with a visit to the Saxony region of Germany for the last Grand Prix to be held before the summer break.
- It will be the 22nd Grand Prix hosted by the Sachsenring circuit and it has featured on the World Championship calendar since 1998.
- At just 3671 metres in length, Sachsenring is the shortest track on the World Championship schedule and its undulating layout has a maximum slope of 10% and a descent of 18%.
Alex Márquez:
- After a crash at Assen when he was fighting for victory, Alex Márquez arrives at the German Grand Prix intending to regain the lead in the points classification.
- The Spaniard is currently second in the overall standings and just six points behind leader Tom Lüthi.
- Alex Márquez crossed the line in 13th place last year and this is the best result achieved by the number 73 in Moto2 at the Sachsenring. He scored a fourth position in Germany when competing in the Moto3 World Championship.
“I want to make up for Assen and try to regain the lead in the Championship”
“It could be said that Sachsenring has been one of the circuits where I have suffered the most in recent seasons. However, this year the mentality is very different, so I think it could be a good race for us before we go on holiday. If we work and try our best just like we did in Assen then I am sure we can be fighting at the front again. I want to make up for the result in Assen zero and try to regain the lead in the Championship.”
Xavi Vierge:
- Xavi Vierge took a big step forward in Assen and a good base set-up allowed him to focus on working on his riding style.
- With five laps to go before the end of the race and fighting for the podium in Assen, Xavi fell after a touch with Augusto Fernandez and was unfortunately unable to obtain the top result he deserved.
- Vierge finished the race in seventh position in 2018 after starting sixth on the grid and this is the best result for the Catalan driver at the Sachsenring.
“I will try to have a positive weekend from the beginning to quickly forget Assen”
“After how the last Grand Prix ended, I'm really looking forward to racing in Germany. We worked very well in Assen and I gained the confidence to be fighting at the front again. The objective at Sachsenring is to continue with the same strategy and line of work that is working so well for us. It's not an easy track but I'll certainly try to have a positive weekend from the beginning to quickly forget Assen and go on holiday with a good feeling.”
