Stefan Bradl just misses the points in home race at Sachsenring
A long and tough race sees Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Stefan Bradl and Tom Luthi finish 16th and 17th respectively in the German GP
With the highest track temperature of the weekend at 48 degrees the 30 lap German GP was a physically exhausting race with Bradl and Luthi just missing out on the points.
For Bradl it was a return MotoGP at his home race as a late replacement for the injured Franco Morbidelli. The tight confines of the Sachsenring allows few overtaking opportunities but Bradl made a strong start from 20th to push through the early traffic to 16th, finishing just one place out of the points.
Luthi had struggled in practice and qualifying to find a comfortable balance with his Honda RC213V but produced a typically determined performance on race day to overcome late race grip issues to finish in 17th place.
Stefan Bradl: 16th, + 38.207
“I am happy to finish the race and it was good weekend, it was a dream come true to be back in MotoGP at my home race, it was an amazing feeling with the fans. Considering the short amount of practice I think I did a good race and still have the performance level for MotoGP. Now I hope Franco will be back even stronger in the next race at Brno.”
Tom Luthi: 17th, + 49.369
“In the first part of the race I felt OK and was able to save the tyres and catch some guys but in the second half of race it was difficult. The rear tyre went down a lot and I struggled to push to get into the points. I expected a little more from this first half of the season but now I’m looking to the next race in Brno where did a test last week.”
