Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Álex Márquez and Franco Morbidelli head to the historic Silverstone track this weekend fully expecting to race in the podium battle in what promises to be another compelling Moto2 World Championship encounter.

Confidence is high in the Márquez camp going into the British Grand Prix after the Spanish rider followed up a stunning first ever front row start in Moto2 with a composed ride to a brilliant fifth place in treacherously wet conditions in Brno.

It was the second top six finish in a row for the 20-year-old, who is looking to continue his outstanding record at the super fast and demanding 5.9km Silverstone track, which has hosted the British Grand Prix since 2010.

Márquez has never finished outside of the top four at Silverstone, which includes podium finishes in Moto3 in 2013 and 2014. He was less than a second off a career first podium in Moto2 last year and the high speed layout of Silverstone is perfectly suited to the hard charging riding style of Márquez, who is determined to be a front-runner in Sunday’s 18-lap race.

Morbidelli is equally determined to get himself back into the fast form that saw him finish on the podium in Holland and Austria and lead the race in Germany.

The Italian is eager to make up for lost time at the legendary Silverstone venue after injury forced him to miss last year’s race.

Morbidelli is also fully focused on reducing the 14-point deficit he trails Brno winner Jonas Folger by in an exciting fight for fourth position in the rankings.

Silverstone is one of the fastest and most famous tracks on the 18-round Moto2 World Championship schedule and it has been a happy hunting ground for Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS in the past.

At least one Marc VDS rider has finished on the Moto2 podium at Silverstone since 2012, including Scott Redding’s unforgettable victory in front of his passionate home crowd in 2013. Tito Rabat and Mika Kallio also delivered a sensational 1-2 for Marc VDS in 2014.

Álex Márquez:
“We arrive in Silverstone in very confident mood after we made a very good job at the last two races. We have found a good direction with the set-up of the Kalex and it will be important now to build on the momentum we have picked up recently. In Brno we could see that if you are immediately fast in FP1 it is easier for the remainder of the weekend. So starting strongly on Friday at Silverstone will also be key. I feel great physically and mentally and I am looking forward to Silverstone. It is a track I like a lot and my recent form means we have another opportunity to have a really strong weekend.”

Franco Morbidelli:
“I am really looking forward to racing again at Silverstone because it is a track that I really like. It is fast and long with some really interesting and technical sections. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to race in the British Grand Prix last year because of my leg injury, so it is good to be back. I hope we get good weather and we can return to the podium fight like in Assen and Red Bull Ring.”
