Lowes arrives at Balaton Park hungry for more success
Fresh off the back of his best weekend in the WorldSBK Championship in Assen recently, Sam Lowes and the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team are aiming for more glory in this weekend’s round four at the Balaton Park track in Hungary
Confidence could not be higher for Lowes after he powered to three third place finishes in the Netherlands earlier this month, with his sensational performance elevating the Briton up to third in the World Championship with a quarter of the season completed.
Track action begins at 1020am local time on Friday morning with the 45-minute FP1 session.
Balaton Park’s tight and twisty 17-turn layout measuring just over four kilometres in length presents the next challenge for Lowes, who is relishing the prospect of returning to Hungary this weekend.
After his phenomenal triple top three in Assen, Lowes has good reason to be optimistic heading to the Hungarian round after he claimed a stunning double podium finish from the front row when WorldSBK debuted at Balaton Park in late July last year.
The 35-year-old qualified second last summer and led from laps three to seven before finishing second to eventual World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu in the Superpole clash over 10 laps.
Lowes then followed up that dazzling display with more brilliance at Balaton Park to claim a superb third in the full distance Race 2.
“The target is to carry on where we left off in Assen”
“Coming off the back of a really strong weekend like Assen means I go to Balaton Park full of confidence and motivation and I’m really looking forward to racing again in Hungary. Balaton was very good for me last year because I was very competitive and clearly the target is to make sure we carry on where we left off in Assen. Our results have been strong, but we have to keep working. I know there are improvements I can make with my riding and I will be focusing on that immediately in FP1. We don’t have much experience of Balaton Park but last year I enjoyed it a lot and we need to keep the ball rolling, so I go there looking forward to being in the battle for the podium again.”
