Deniz Oncu rode a consistent, controlled race to claim important points for 13th at the Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto on Sunday, while Aron Canet suffered an unfortunate crash.

After iffy weather through Friday and Saturday, conditions were perfect for racing on Sunday with Andalusia bathed in sunshine and ambient temperatures of 23 degrees.

The Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto hosted the fourth Moto2 race of 2026, which was held over 21 laps.

The legendary venue was packed to capacity with a bumper attendance of 96,540 coming through the gates on Sunday.

Aron Canet, DNF

Starting from 11th on the grid, Aron enjoyed a strong start and gained a place on the first lap.

But the Spaniard was back in 13th by lap three and feeling a lack of rear grip. He then suffered a fast crash at Turn 8 on the sixth lap when trying to recover time.

This result leaves Aron 18th in the championship standings with 5.5 points.

“I’m pretty sure we’ll be back to 100 percent for Le Mans”

Aron’s comments:

“A tough day. I got a good start and made up a place in the first few corners. But soon after that I felt like I was struggling with rear grip. I did my best but had a crash at Turn 8. It was a fast one. Now I’m feeling a bit of pain in my neck but I’m pretty sure we’ll be back to 100 percent for Le Mans. It’s a shame as we definitely made progress this weekend. I felt stronger over a fast lap yesterday but today was difficult. We still have work to do.”

Deniz Oncu, 13th

Starting 19th, Deniz knew a strong start and first lap was crucial. He duly delivered, by gaining two places on the first lap and another one on lap two.

The Turkish rider continued to make up ground as the race progressed. Coming home in 13th, 15s back of victor Senna Agius represents a solid improvement compared to the past two races.

Deniz now sits 17th in the championship standings with 6.5 points.

“We’ve made an improvement this weekend”

Deniz’s comments:

“We’ve finished the Spanish GP here in Jerez. Compared to the two previous races, we’ve made an improvement this weekend. This is very good to see. We finished the race and take home three points. We only finished 15 seconds back of the winner, which is closer than the previous races. We’ll analyse exactly what happened this weekend over the coming days and will make sure we’re well prepared for the next one. The next race is Le Mans. We’ll keep working for that to make sure we continue this upward trend.”
