Di Meglio produces memorable fightback in Valencia finale
The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider performed admirably in the final race of the 2019 MotoE World Cup, taking sixth place in an exciting outing in Valencia.
- Increasingly windy conditions and cool ambient temperatures of 15 degrees greeted the riders for the final race of the 2019 MotoE World Cup.
- The 2008 125cc World Champion made a superb start from twelfth on the grid and then avoided some crashes on the first lap to gain seven positions in an all-action opening to the seven-lap race.
- From there Di Meglio was involved in a brilliant fight with the experienced Sete Gibernau, with the pair exchanging sixth place several times on laps four, five and six.
- In the end Di Meglio overcame Gibernau’s challenge to finish sixth. The result meant Di Meglio ended the inaugural MotoE World Cup in fifth place on 63 points, 36 back of the overall winner Matteo Ferrari.
“It has been good to finish like this”
“It was a very good race. I did a good start and came out of the second corner in sixth place! After this I had a good fight with [Alex] De Angelis and Ferrari. In the first two laps Ferrari overtook me twice and we lost the group ahead. But it has been good to finish like this. We are still really disappointed that we lost so many points in the races at Misano and lost the chance to fight for the championship. Without this I think we could have been in the top three overall. But anyway this is good experience for next year. Thanks to everyone in the Marc VDS team for all they have done for me. We will come back stronger next year.”
