Álex Márquez injured in testing crash at Jerez

Gosselies, Belgium – 21 February 2016: Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider, Álex Márquez, sustained a fracture to his left triquetrum – one of the eight small carpal bones in the wrist – after crashing heavily at Sito Pons corner while testing at Jerez yesterday.

Following the crash Márquez returned to Barcelona, where he was admitted to the 
Hospital University Quirón Dexeus in Barcelona for further examination and treatment.

This morning the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider underwent surgery, with surgeons under the direction of Doctor Xavier Mir successfully inserting a titanium screw to stabilise the fracture using keyhole surgery techniques.

Doctors at the Hospital University Quirón Dexeus will monitor Márquez’s recovery and rehabilitation over the next seven days, after which a decision will made as to when the former Moto3 World Champion will be fit enough to resume testing.
