The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider was in fast form all day to post the sixth fastest time with teammate Joan Mir set to start from fourteenth in the Japan Grand Prix.

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Alex Marquez and Joan Mir enjoyed dry, sunny but cool conditions at Twin Ring Motegi for the all-important qualifying session for the Japan Grand Prix.

Alex Marquez made a remarkable comeback from his high-speed crash on Friday to post the third fastest time in FP3. For qualifying the Spanish star was also in top form and working towards a comfortable race set-up and was rewarded with a time of 1’51.250 for sixth on the grid.

Joan Mir was eager to gain dry track time in FP3 and optimise race set-up and finished 12th fastest in the session. However Mir was unsatisfied with qualifying and unable to maximise his potential on the 4.8km circuit and finished 14th on the fifth row with a time of 1’51.555.

The warm-up session will be at 9:10am with the 22 lap race, round 16 of the Moto2 World Championship, scheduled for12:20pm.

Alex Marquez: 6th, 1’51.250, +0.491, 37 laps, 177 km

“In the race I will try my best from the first lap to the end”

“I am quite happy with this result and I felt quite good on the bike this morning although you always struggle little after a after like yesterday, We have been working step-by-step to improve the bike and did another change for my final exit but that did not work but it was important to try it. In the race I will try my best from the first lap to the end.”

Joan Mir: 14th, 1’51.555, + 0.796, 37 laps, 177 km

“I hope to be in a position to fight for the podium”

“I am not happy about my qualifying because it does not reflect my potential in the circuit, but it is what it is. In the race I will have to try and overtake as many riders as I can in the opening laps and hopefully be in a position to fight for the podium. ”
