Alex Marquez third overall in Friday practice at Aragon GP

The Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider was on the front pace in both sessions. Rookie Joan Mir still searching for more speed.

Just five days after their private test in Valencia Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Alex Marquez and Joan Mir were welcomed by warm and sunny summer conditions at MotorLand Aragon.

Alex Marquez continued his fast form from the test day to go fifth fastest in FP1 before revealing in home conditions at MotorLand to finish FP2 in third position overall with a time of 1’53.842.

For reigning Moto3 world champion Joan Mir the day was more complicated. The Moto2 rookie was tenth in the morning session and despite a 0.1s improvement in FP2 the young Spaniard was looking for answers after finishing 15th overall with a best lap of 1’54.359

Tomorrow’s FP3 session is scheduled for 10:55am with qualifying at 3:05pm.

Alex Marquez: 3rd, 1’53.842, + 0.272, 37 laps, 187 km

“It looks like the things we tried in the Valencia test have helped me here, especially in the hot conditions, but we must remember it is only Friday. We made a good step from FP1 to the afternoon session and I have a very good feeling on the bike. We still need to be more consistent in sectors two and three but I’m happy and confident for tomorrow’s qualifying.”

Joan Mir: 15th, 1’54.359, + 0.789, 37 laps, 187 km

“This has been a really difficult day for me, I don’t have a good feeling on the bike. But I think we can solve our problems by checking all the data overnight and find a solution for a stronger performance in qualifying.”
