Aron Canet fought through from 21st on the grid to score a 15th place finish at the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday, while Deniz Öncü was 20th. 

After Saturday morning’s rain, conditions were close to perfect on Sunday on the Adriatic coast with ambient temperatures reaching 27 degrees at 12:15 when the Moto2 race started.

The Moto2 outing was impacted when Senna Agius, Dani Holgado and Angel Piqueras – the riders that qualified first, second and third – all crashed at the race’s first turn.

A massive crowd of 96,485 showed up to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on race day to take in the 14th outing of the 2026 Moto2 season.

Aron Canet, 15th 

Starting from 21st on the grid, Aron had a brilliant start and aggressive opening corners to sit 13th at the close of the first lap.

The Spaniard was then involved in a tight fight for 15th with Marcos Ramirez and Taiyo Furusato. The 26-year old’s consistency won out as he claimed the final point.

This result leaves Aron 23rd in the championship standings with 14.5 points to his name.

“I’m still believing in myself and trying every corner of every lap” 

Aron’s comments:

“Well, after many races and many crashes it was always going to be a long way back to the top. I’ve struggled a lot this year but you can always extract some positives from every bad situation. You always learn more in the difficult moments than in the good ones. The positive thing is I’m still believing in myself, still working for myself and trying every corner of every lap 100% even though I know I’m not fighting for victory. This isn’t necessarily the result we want but it’s a step in the right direction and if we keep working like we have done this weekend, then better results will start arriving soon.” 

Deniz Öncü, 20th 

Starting 25th due to a penalty for another rider, Deniz had a strong start and gained three places on the first lap to sit 22nd.

But any hopes of an Aragon-esque comeback were soon quelled as the Turkish rider didn’t feel comfortable. After rising two further places, he came home in 20th.

Deniz now sits 17th in the championship table with 31.5 points.

“The whole weekend was difficult”

Deniz’s comments:

“Well, we’ve finished the race weekend here in Misano. It’s a weekend that we have to just put in the bin and forget. The previous races we saw improvements, and we could keep a good rhythm all race long. But here was tough. The whole weekend was difficult to be honest. We had so many different issues. I couldn’t find any comfort on the bike. Anyway, it’s a long season and there are still many races to go. We’ll start again at the Red Bull Ring in five days and hopefully we can find the good feeling we had on the Sunday at Aragon there.”
