Fast and productive test day for Morbidelli and Luthi at Brno

The Brno test day saw Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Franco Morbidelli and Tom Luthi produce personal best lap times in a short but productive session.

Morbidelli and Luthi finished their test programs just after lunch in hot and sunny conditions similar to Sunday’s Czech Republic Grand Prix.

Neither had new parts to evaluate and both riders concentrated on fine tuning set-up on their Honda RC213Vs using the race data as a reference point.

Morbidelli completed 25 laps despite feeling some pain in his left hand after a tiring four days of practice, racing and testing. He worked primarily on trying to improve stability under acceleration. With a best lap of 1’56.697 Morbidelli was an impressive one second faster than his best time in the race.

Luthi’s focus was on adapting his riding style with a revised seating position to improve front-end feel, braking control and the transition to throttle application. The progress was positive and he was 0.9s faster than his best race lap with a time of 1’57.034.

Franco Morbidelli: 1’56.697, 25 laps

“I was not expecting to make this many laps because my hand was a little painful and swollen from the race but I did it. We are working to improve the stability of the bike and although we didn’t find a big step forward we have some ideas for a set-up direction which we will continue work on.”

Tom Luthi: 1’57.034, 37 laps

“I had many things I wanted to try with my riding style including a different seat position which gave me a really good feeling on the bike. I could be more precise with more control in the braking areas. If you don’t get it right in the braking areas you mess up the rest of the corner so it was a very positive test for me.”
