Lowes fails to make Most of tricky Sunday in Czechia

Sam Lowes had a difficult day at the Most Circuit as he crashed in the Superpole Race before collecting important points for 12th in Race 2.

Sam Lowes remounted to finish 17th in Sunday’s Superpole Race before fighting back from a tricky start in Race 2.

Even if he scored just 4 points this weekend, the 35-year old still sits a promising 5th in the championship standings with seven rounds to go.

Superpole Race: 17th
Race 2: 12th

Conditions were overcast and slightly cooler on Sunday for the Czech round of the WorldSBK Championship with ambient temperatures sitting at just 16 degrees ahead of Race 2.

Keen to find some improvements after Saturday, Lowes started the day well as he set the 4th fastest time in Warm Up.

The Briton was keen to start the Superpole Race well from 4th on the grid and get straight into the podium fight. But after a decent jump, Lowes crashed out at Turn 1.

Keen to finish the race, the 35-year old remounted in 20th and gradually recovered to finish the 10-lap race in 17th.

That meant Lowes started Race 2 from 10th on the grid. Knowing that a finish was of the utmost importance, he had a solid getaway and kept out of trouble to finish lap 1 in 13th.

Lowes soon started making progress. Despite not feeling comfortable on his Elf Marc VDS Racing Team Ducati Panigale V4R, he managed to gain positions on laps 13 and 16 to come home in 12th.

The four points gained in Race 2 means Sam now sits in 5th place in the overall standings. He now has 103 points, just 18 back of third place, before heading to Aragon in Spain for Round 6 at the end of May.

“I was quite fast on Friday but lost a lot of the rhythm through a variety of factors.”

“Obviously it was a bad race. Sorry to the team for that. I didn’t have a good feeling, and had a few issues at the beginning of the race. I had some pain in my arm that then eased off at the end of the race. I didn’t ride very well. I had to finish that race after two DNFs and brought the bike home. It was a difficult weekend. I was quite fast on Friday but lost a lot of the rhythm through a variety of factors. I knew today I just had to bring the bike home, and today was probably the worst I’ve ridden in quite a long time. I had no confidence but kept pushing until the end. I tried to get (Xavi) Vierge at the end but didn’t quite manage it. It was a bad race. Everyone has weekends like this. Luckily, we have a test now so we can try out a few little pieces and then look forward to Aragón, which is a track that I love.”
