Team Marc VDS is delighted to announce the signing of French rider Mike di Meglio for the inaugural FIM Enel MotoE World Cup in 2019.

The 2008 125cc World Champion and former MotoGP rider will be one of the 18 riders participating in the new electric bike series next year.

Team Marc VDS is honoured to be part of the first addition of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, with the introduction of zero emission motorsport kicking off an exciting new era for Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

The FIM Enel MotoE World Cup is a unique competition for electric bikes that will be ridden by a star-studded cast of faces very familiar to MotoGP fans across the globe.

Team Marc VDS rider Mike di Meglio, is immensely excited to take on the new challenge of riding one of the machines from the Energica Motor Company in the five rounds of the first FIM Enel MotoE World Cup season.

The new machine will be based on the current Ego model of the Italian manufacturer and it will produce an impressive power figure of 160 HP (120 Kw). The capacity of the battery is 20 Kwh
and the top speed capability of around 270 km/h.

The FIM Enel MotoE World Cup will commence at the Spanish Grand Prix (Jerez, May 5) and continuing in France (Le Mans, May 19), Germany (Sachsenring, July 7), Austria (Red Bull Ring, August 11) and San Marino (Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, 2 races September 14 and 15).

Fans will get plenty of opportunity to see Team Marc VDS and di Meglio embark on their new adventure, with the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup featuring two free practice sessions plus a qualifying session. The race will be held on Sunday morning, just before the Moto3 race.

Marc Van der Straten:

“It is a pleasure to announce Mike Di Meglio as our rider next season in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup. As soon as we decided to participate in MotoE alongside our long-standing commitment to the Moto2 World Championship, we thought that Mike was a great option to ride the electric motorcycle. He has great experience and retains a great desire to win. We contacted him and it was great that he agreed to join our new project. We will start a new adventure together that I think will be very successful and we will give our maximum to ensure he has the best possible support available.”

Mike Di Meglio:

“It’s a great pleasure for me to be joining Marc VDS Racing and I am very proud to be part of this exciting new project. I know the potential of this team because they have always demonstrated they are strong and fighting for the victory in every category they have entered. The FIM Enel MotoE World Cup is a new challenge and it will be important to have a strong team behind you, and that’s exactly what I have. It is going to be interesting to see how this new series evolves but I think it will be very exciting because everybody is competing on the same machinery. I am looking forward to this new challenge and hopefully I can bring more success to Marc VDS Racing like they have enjoyed in the past in MotoGP and Moto2.”
