Morbidelli and Márquez target the podium in Argentina
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS riders Franco Morbidelli and Álex Márquez have their sights set firmly on the podium this weekend, as they head to the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit in Argentina.
Morbidelli travels to South America as the Moto2 Championship leader, having taken a superb victory from pole position in the opening race of the season in Qatar. It was the Italian's first World Championship win and a performance that the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider is keen to repeat this weekend, as he looks to defend his championship lead over second placed Tom Lüthi.
Márquez also arrives in Argentina off the back of a strong performance in the opening race in Qatar, which he finished in fifth place after battling in the top three during the early stages. It was a confidence boosting start to the season for the 20-year-old Spaniard, who heads to South America determined to fight for his first podium finish of the season in Sunday's 23-lap Moto2 encounter.
Franco Morbidelli:
“I'm feeling quite confident at the moment coming off the back of my first Moto2 win in Qatar and now we head to Argentina, a track I like a lot. The feeling with the team and with the bike is good and we want to continue in this way this weekend in South America. I'm looking forward to the race and I'm sure we can come away from Argentina with another strong result.”
Álex Márquez:
“In Qatar we made a good weekend, despite struggling a little on the Sunday, but after checking the data from the race we have a good idea what we miss and this is where we will focus this weekend in Argentina. The Termas de Rio Hondo track is one I like a lot and one at which I was fast last year, so I'm very motivated for the weekend ahead. The aim is to fight for a podium finish in the race and, after the good start to the season in Qatar, I'm confident that this is a realistic goal.”
