Deniz Öncü followed his best Saturday of 2026 with a strong, consistent performance at the Austrian Grand Prix while Aron Canet rose six places to finish 13th. 

After Saturday morning’s rain, conditions were close to perfect on Sunday in the Styrian mountains with ambient temperatures reaching a mild 19 degrees at lunchtime.

The Moto2 race got underway at 12:15 and was contensted over 23 laps.

A modest crowd of 46,298 turned up at the Red Bull Ring on race day to take in the 15th outing of the 2026 Moto2 season.

Aron Canet, 13th 

Starting from 19th on the grid, Aron enjoyed a good start to sit 16th at the close of lap one.

The Spaniard was in a lonely race for the most part. After scrapping with Jose Antonio Rueda, he maintained 13th from lap 14 onward to enjoy a consistent finish.

This result sees Aron climb to 22nd in the championship standings with 17.5 points.

“It’s not easy to come from 19th to 13th at this track” 

Aron’s comments:

“It was a great race. I made a good start but the problem was we were struggling a bit in the middle part of the race. Anyway, there are lots of positives to take from this weekend. Qualifying was tough but other than that, I felt quite fast. This is definitely a step up from a few weeks ago. it’s not easy to come from 19th position to 13th at this track. Let’s try to continue this positive line and go to the flyaway races with more confidence.” 

Deniz Öncü, 9th 

Starting twelfth after his best Saturday of 2026, Deniz had a brilliant start and gained four places on the first lap to sit eighth.

The Turkish rider was soon involved in a nice fight with Dani Holgado and Barry Baltus for seventh, and came home just over one second behind the Spaniard.

Deniz’s third top nine finish in the past four rounds sees climbs one place to sit 16th in the championship with 38.5 points.

“This was another consistent result”

Deniz’s comments:

“We’ve finished the Austrian Grand Prix. We got another top ten. I want to take the positives from today rather than the negatives. For sure, there are many things that we can still improve. Our weak point is still the same thing we’ve been struggling with for some races now. We need to find a way to flow with the bike. Anyway, another consistent result. We’ll keep working and try to score an even better result in Japan.”
