Tough Sunday for ELF Marc VDS duo in Austria
Filip Salac came home in 11th after winning out a 3-rider fight while Jake Dixon had to fight back from an off-track excursion on the first lap to finish 20th.
The threat of rain showers was ever present at the spectacular Red Bull Ring on Sunday but they held off for the 23-lap Moto2 race which got underway in dry conditions at 12.15 local time.
Despite the overcast weather, it was still hot in Spielberg in the south of Austria with ambient temperatures reaching 22 degrees during the Moto2 race.
A total of 49,901 were in attendance to watch the 13th Moto2 race of 2025 on Sunday.
Jake Dixon, 20th
Starting 20th on the grid, Jake had contact with another rider entering the Turn 2 chicane for the first time, which forced him to run off track and rejoin at the back of the pack.
From there, Jake fought until the end and managed to recover 7 places as he came home in 20th place.
This result means Jake remains in 5th in the championship standings with 119 points.
“It wasn’t a great weekend. There are not many positive things to say, unfortunately. It’s been a disaster. We had that incident on the first lap, which meant I was right at the back of the field. This wasn’t ideal. And from there, I just didn’t have the pace. I tried to recover and kept going until the end but I couldn’t make amazing progress. I don’t think I’ve finished in this place since 2019 so it’s a tough one to take. From now until Balaton Park next week I want to try and do as much relaxing as possible because we need to reset a bit after this and try and come back refreshed to fight again.”
Filip Salac, 11th
Launching from 18th on the grid after suffering a technical issue on Saturday afternoon, Filip had a good, aggressive first lap to sit 15th.
He was then caught up in a hectic fight for 11th and he fended off challenges from Marcos Ramirez and Ayumu Sasaki to take the place.
This result sees Filip drop one place to 13th in championship with 71 points.
“The race is done. I already knew before the race what to expect from 18th in the grid. It was hard to fight and make big progress. Like Brno, I had so many problems when I was stopping the bike when I was trying to overtake another rider. I was just surviving, which was frustrating. I was nearly crying in the helmet toward the end because I couldn’t do anything more. I switched to the map three of engine brake as early as lap two, and I knew then it was going to be hard. I hope we can find a solution in the next race. It’s a shame because I had the feeling that we were one of the faster Moto2 riders this weekend yet we finished eleventh. Let’s regroup and go again next weekend in Hungary.”
