Unfortunate end for Marc VDS duo in Portugal

Jake Dixon crashed out of the fight for 6th on the final lap of the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday but was thankfully unharmed, while Filip Salac finished 15th.

The Algarve International Circuit hosted the 21st Moto2 race of the season on Sunday with the 4.59km track bathed in sunshine and mild ambient temperatures of 19 degrees.

Sunday’s schedule was changed to accommodate time difference with Central Europe. The 21-lap Moto2 race kicked off action as a result at 11.15 local time.

A total of 73,575 fans were in attendance on Sunday to watch the penultimate Moto2 race of 2025.

Jake Dixon, DNF

Starting from 2nd on the grid, Jake enjoyed a steady start and ended the first lap in 3rd place behind Diogo Moreira and Collin Veijer.

It soon became clear the 29-year old didn’t have ideal rear grip, and struggled to keep up with the podium contenders. Jake started the final lap in 7th and was chasing down 6th when he crashed out at Turn 3.

Today’s result sees Jake sit 5th in the championship standings with 215 points.

“We crashed out on the last lap, unfortunately. I had been pushing over the limit for a long time in that race. I really struggled. When we had grip yesterday, I was able to do the job. But it just didn’t seem to come easy then. I didn’t have the rear grip on entry or exit. Lap by lap it was getting worse, which started to cause some problems. I never gave up. I tried everything until the end. Unfortunately, I went defensive into Turn 3 on the last lap so the guys behind didn’t come up the inside of me and I just closed the front. That was my mistake. But this is what happens when you’re pushing at the limit. I’m happy overall because again I was running as the top Boscoscuro. I felt I was making the difference to the others and am extracting the most out of the package. It’s a shame how it ended, but we’ll go again in a couple of days.

Filip Salac, 15th

Launching from 17th, Filip had a strong start but ran off track at Turn 10 on the first lap after locking the front and rejoined back in 20th.

The Czech rider then demonstrated good rhythm through the rest of the race and gained five places to come home in 15th.

This result leaves Filip 16th in the championship standings with 83 points.

“Well, Sunday’s done here in Portugal. It wasn’t the result we wanted. I got an amazing start – one of my best I ever had. Unfortunately, in Turn 10 it was the first time this weekend I went with the full tank. I braked way too hard and locked the front and I had to run off the track and into the gravel. I lost a lot of positions and time there. Also, it took a bit of time for me to clean the gravel off the tyres. In the end the pace wasn’t that bad. The position is not what we wanted or deserved but at least we finished and had no problems. So, let’s go for the last one at Valencia next week.”
